6:53AM Scotts Miracle-Gro increases FY09 EPS guidance; expects sales to increase 7-8% (SMG) 35.02 : Co issues upside guidance for Q3 (Jun), sees EPS of $2.35-2.45 (previous range $2.10-2.30), excluding non-recurring items, vs. $2.15 First Call consensus. 2009 free cash flow outlook improves to a minimum of $180.0 mln. Consumer purchases of the co's products in the U.S., as measured by point-of-sale data from its largest retail partners, were up 17% on a fiscal year-to-date basis through the end of May, with particular strength in gardening-related categories. Consumer purchases of media products improved 23% through May compared with the same period last year. Consumer purchases of lawn fertilizer increased 19%. Similar trends remained in place through the first half of June. Scotts LawnService is now expected to report strong earnings improvement despite lower year/year revenue and customer count. Co-wide sales are expected to increase 7-8%, excluding impact of recall and registration matters and F/X.
